Our short kits contain all the shaped parts that would require much effort to cut by hand. They may be balsa, lite ply, birch ply, or hardwood like spruce. The ribs, fuselage formers, and all the shaped parts are precision laser cut to ensure a quality build. Our short kits have many parts, like ribs, that remain in the sheet, so they are protected. The parts are segregated, sealed in plastic bags, and labeled. A sheet accompanying them has the bag number and the parts in that bag for easy locating. Short kits do not include stock sheet wood or sticks like spars. No metal, rubber, plastic, or fiberglass parts are included. Due to copyright issues we cannot include plans and instructions for many of our kits, in those cases they must be obtained from the designer or their agent.
A:
Most of our kits do not include plans. We cut parts based on popular designer plans (like Ziroli, Bates, Hostetler, etc.). You will need to purchase the plans directly from the designer to complete the build. We provide links to the plan designers on our product pages.
A:
Most standard short kits are cut to order. Please allow 2-3 weeks for cutting and packaging before your order ships. Custom cutting requests may take longer depending on the complexity of the design.
A:
Yes, we ship to builders worldwide! However, International shipping costs must be calculated and agreed to before you place your order and will be invoiced manually.
A:
Absolutely! We love bringing custom designs to life. Please select "Custom Cutting Request" in the contact form, and we will get back to you to discuss the details, review your CAD files or plans, and provide a quote.
A:
We use premium, hand-selected AAA grade balsa wood and aircraft-grade birch or lite-plywood. We carefully select the density of the wood based on the part's structural requirement.
A:
For most of the interlocking balsa construction, we recommend high-quality CA (cyanoacrylate) glue. For high-stress areas like the firewall, landing gear blocks, and wing joiners, a good 30-minute epoxy is highly recommended. If you are a beginner, we highly recommend you check out our Beginners Hub on our Resources page.
A:
We don't. Our commitment to you is straightforward — we cut what the plans specify, using the exact wood species, grain orientation, and thickness called out by the designer. If a plan calls for 3/32" sheet balsa, that is exactly what you receive. Should we ever encounter a situation where a specified material is temporarily unavailable, we will contact you before cutting begins — never substitute without your knowledge and explicit approval. We believe transparency is the foundation of trust, and your build deserves nothing less than precisely what you ordered.
A:
Every one of our kits is custom-cut to order. The term "In Stock" means that we have the raw materials necessary to make the kit. "Out of Stock" means that we do not have the raw materials needed to make the kit.
