Designed by Lloyd Stearman in the early 1930’s and when Boeing bought Stearman Aircraft, and installed the Continental R-670-5 engine it became the PT-17 .

This aircraft became the primary trainer aircraft for the US Army and Navy as well as the Canadian Air Force.  More than 10,000 were manufactured.  They were rugged and forgiving and made an excellent primary trainer aircraft.  

After WWII the surplus military sales of these aircraft found new adventures and were very popular for crop dusting, aerobatic demonstrations and wing walking.
