At the beginning of WWII, the Japanese Zero was far Superior to any US fighter. As time wore on, and the American industry began cranking out newer models of aircraft like the Vought Corsair, the tables were turned. Referred to as Whistling Death by Japanese pilots who feared the Corsair. Initially rejected by the Navy for carrier duty, they gave them to the Marines. Instantly recognizable by it’s inverted gull wing and made famous by Baa Baa Black Sheep TV series.
