First built for the US Navy and delivered in 1945 with production of the 3,000 plus aircraft until 1957.
It was a single pilot, piston engine, propeller driven straight wing aircraft that could deliver 8,000 pounds of armament, long distances and loiter for long periods of time. It was excellent in ground attack of mountain bridges and electric plants. Primary action was seen in the Vietnam War.
