Introduced mid 1943 to upgrade the Italian air force. Considered by many, the best Italian Fighter of WWII. Late in the war in northern Italy, a squadron of G55 Centuro’s encountered P-47, Spitfires, Mustangs, and P-38 Lightnings and proved to be a tough adversary. The pilots liked them but two few were produced and too late in the war.
