Who is Kit Cutters Inc?

Kit Cutters Inc. is a family operated business located in the the southwestern United States. We are a real business with real stock holders and a board of directors. All of our stock is privately owned and is not publicly offered. We normally have 2-3 people cutting kits and plus one person performing administrative chores such as maintaining this website.  Most of kit cutters are retirees who supplement their pensions by pursuing their woodworking hobby through kit cutting.  Some of our kit cutters have special needs and perform contract work for us at their personal residents.  All of our kits are inspected before shipment to insure quality and completeness.

Why should I place my kit order with Kit Cutters Inc?

Kit Cutters are we are not affiliated with any particular plane designer.  We are totally committed to the propagation of giant model aircraft and manufacture excellent kits at very modest prices.  Kit Cutters is completely independent of all designers, wood suppliers, magazines, clubs, or groups.  Our loyalties are to our customers not to any business alliance.  Kit Cutters does not push any particular designer and frankly, many of the less popular designers are actually the best designed and provide the best detailed plans.  Also, all of Kit Cutters wood is sealed in a nitrogen purged plastic packaging to preserve the freshness of the wood and control moisture.  The wood quality is the best that is available. We always supply the wood specified on the customer's plans or better and never substitute without the customer's approval.   Kit Cutters in-stock kits always have that "just cut" appearance and will meet with your complete satisfaction or our money back (See our guarantee FAQ). After you order a kit from Kit Cutters, you will be contacted through either regular phone calls or e-mail to keep you abreast of the progress of your kit.

Why are kits cut in the Southwest better than other locals?

Model kits cut in the southwest United States are not subject to the extreme changes temperature and humidity that other kit cutting locations experience Paint will not adhere properly and the glue joints will be substantially weaker regardless of how well they are cut.  Most kit parts are made from either balsa or plywood wood both of which are highly susceptible to moisture absorption.

How long does it normally take to cut a giant scale kit?

Normally it take about 40-60 hours to cut a giant scale kit depending on number of pieces and complexity.  But because of the numerous materials and material sizes involved there always seems to be specialty wood or size that needs to be ordered.  Therefore, the kit actually takes about two weeks (calendar time) to complete and check.

Why is Kit Cutters wood sealed in plastic?

We seal all of our wood in plastic to prevent moisture absorption into the wood.  Also, if you purchase a kit from our stock, we want this wood to be the freshest condition possible. Kit Cutter's wood is not only hermetically sealed in 3 mil plastic, but also purged with nitrogen to minimize wood deterioration.  All wood including paper products slowly deteriorates (burns) and discolors with expose to the air (oxygen).  Our sealing equipment is the same equipment that is used to seal sterilized surgical instruments.  We do not use zip-lock, red line or any other domestic food bags.

Why are Kit Cutters' shipping containers so big and strong?

We take great pride in our product and do not want damage to occur in shipment.  All of our kits are packed so there is very little movement amongst the parts inside the shipping container.  Kit Cutters uses bubble wrap and fill to insure your kit arrives in perfection condition without damaged parts or wood dents.  Its very discouraging to the model builder to assemble a model that has components which are damaged and/or discolored from exposure to the elements.
